I’m lucky to be at a very international lab so English is one of the spoken languages (along with French) so there’s not much of a language barrier. Sometimes I meet people who only speak a little English and I speak a little French so we have a bit of a game of charades along with what words we know. It usually works out and we get a laugh out of it.

The work environment is probably also quite unique as it’s a lab set up by many member countries so it’s not a swiss/french lab. It’s different to working in the UK but only because you get to work with people from different backgrounds with different views and different ideas. It’s very useful to have people who trained in different ways and approach problems in a different style.

It’s also just fun to meet new people.
