Honestly? No. I can’t even remember all the jobs that I dreamed of doing but among them are lawyer, animator, architect, zoo keeper and pilot. I decided on my degree (physics) the day of the UCAS deadline as i felt it gave me the most flexibility for jobs I may be interested in. Going into a PhD in particle physics wasn’t even in consideration until I did a research project in my 3rd year of university and fell in love with it. What I do next is still uncertain as well. Some people know early, some need to explore their options and both are fine.

For me, no! When I was at primary school I wanted to be a sports star – I would have said football or cricket depending on which day you asked me! Whilst at secondary school I enjoyed maths and science (especially physics), so did some research on careers related to those subjects. Engineering sounded pretty cool, so when I was in Year 10 I looked to complete my work experience at an aerospace company which I really enjoyed. So maybe at that point I thought “I’d like to be an engineer”, but it was something I had considered earlier.
